"Kudos for pushing the limits on what 'education' means and how we can
evolve together in this digital age."

What You'll Learn

  • Discover the power of “experiences" and how they compare to products, and understand how to leverage them to help a company grow in different directions.

  • Identify what outcomes people want to achieve in their life and at work to drive customer-centric innovation.

  • Use divergent and convergent thinking to discover "the job that matters the most" (functional, social, emotional jobs) to your customer.
  • Expose gaps in your customers' current journey with your experience and ideate potential solutions.

  • Capitalize on your business’s core competencies and identify ways to use them to serve unmet needs of customers.

  • Identify market expansion or experience ideas with the highest impact for your customers and your company.

  • Make underlying assumptions about your ideas explicit and test them in the real world to learn what works and what doesn't.

Meet Your Professor

Dr. Sara Beckman is one of the most in-demand and award-winning faculty members at UC Berkeley and the Haas School of Business.  In over thirty years at Berkeley Haas, Dr. Beckman has initiated new courses on design, entrepreneurship in biotechnology, new product development, product management and problem framing/solving. Dr. Beckman is a 4-time recipient of the highest award for teaching excellence at Berkeley Haas, and the recipient of UC Berkeley’s highest awards for teaching and mentoring: the UC Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award and the Carol D. Soc Distinguished Graduate Student Mentoring Award.

Professor Beckman’s current research focuses on the pedagogy of teaching design and on the role of diversity on design and innovation teams, for which she developed a Teaming with Diversity curriculum used in engineering, biological sciences, humanities and business classes at UC Berkeley and elsewhere.
Professor Beckman directs the in-person intensive Product Management, online Product Management, and Customer Obsessed Design Programs for UC Berkeley Executive Education, serving product managers from around the world. She has trained over 5,000 Product Management executives through these programs and through Berkeley Exec Ed’s customized corporate, government, and university programs.

Connecting Berkeley’s business and engineering schools, Professor Beckman developed, institutionalized and directed the school’s Management of Technology Program and served as the Chief Learning Officer of the Jacobs Institute of Design Innovation within Berkeley's College of Engineering. In this role, she facilitated the creation of a multi-disciplinary Certificate in Design Innovation for business and engineering students. She now serves on the Jacobs Institute of Design Innovation's Faculty Council and co-teaches a class on Collaborative Innovation with Theater/Dance Performance Studies and Art Practice colleagues.

Before joining Berkeley Haas, Professor Beckman worked in the Operations Management Services group at Booz, Allen & Hamilton and ran the Change Management Team at Hewlett-Packard. Dr. Beckman received her BS, MS and PhD degrees from Stanford University in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management.

How will the sprint be affected by the July 4th holiday in the US?
There are no scheduled content releases or events over the 4th of July weekend, but students may be finishing up projects. The due date for projects may be extended to accommodate the holiday.

I work full-time. Do I have time to take this sprint?
We design sprints for the busy, full-time professional, but we also get that it can be tough to add yet another thing! One of our core features is flexibility: some students like to keep up day-to-day (expect to spend about 1-2 hours per module), others like to binge over a weekend. Whatever group you belong in, we’ve found that our alumni have been able to sustain this over the 2-3 week period.

Do I have to attend all of the live sessions in real-time?
You don’t! We record every live session with our professors and make it available for you to replay, at your convenience.

Will I receive a certificate upon completion?
You may be eligible! We require that students watch all course content videos and complete the final project in order to receive a certificate of completion. You can print out a certificate and add it to your LinkedIn profile.

So there’s homework then?
Not in the traditional sense. We provide a sprint workbook and facilitate community interaction, and you don’t have to participate--but we hope you will, as it really brings the materials to life. You’re also not obligated to complete the final project unless you’d like to qualify for a certificate.

Will my projects remain confidential?
Yes! Upon submission, simply flag it as confidential, and we will not share your project beyond the Prof G team.

Can I get the course fee reimbursed by my company?
We can’t guarantee your company will reimburse you, but nearly half of our alumni have reported successful reimbursements. Check out our tips on reimbursement for some positioning ideas and a sample email you can use.

Do you offer scholarships?
We sure do. Head on over to our scholarships page to learn more and to apply for a scholarship.

I have more questions, how can I get in touch?
Visit our help center and we’ll take care of you!
